Vanderhoof Aquatic Centre

British Columbia

Carscadden has worked with the District of Vanderhoof since 2013, making the completion of this project a deeply satisfying labour of love.

The project began with extensive work to assist the District in securing by community referendum the funding to construction a new, and much-desired, aquatic facility for the immediate and surrounding communities.

The facility will serve as a catalyst, promoting not just the health and wellness of its people, but the District itself.

The referendum helped to secure not only funding, but strong community support for the project, and with that enthusiasm, Carscadden worked with District staff and stakeholders to design a modern facility comprising a 25m competition lap pool, leisure pool, lazy river, and hot pool.

The facility is a testament to the will of the community in Vanderhoof to share an provide for everyone from the very young to the very old, both as a community hub for fitness and physical therapy, but also entertainment and community engagement and cohesion.

Stay tuned for construction photographs and the inaugural swim!

Much of the project teams effort went to making the spaces feel as large and generous as possible. Collecting the disparate building programming under a single, expansive roof - first wood, and ultimately a more cost-effective series of acoustical fins - makes a community pool feel like a regional pool, connected to the exterior and community.
