Dugald Morrison Park Field
Situated to the immediate north of a newly renovated series of athletic fields, this new field house in Delta's Dugald Morrison Park is the home of the girls Ladner Storm Soccer Team, whose 2012 successes provided for some of the facility's funding.
In toto, the facility is more than just a home for the Ladner Storm, serving also the athletic fields and neighbouring community. Public washrooms and change facilities establish the ends of the building, making for building with multiple front entrances and presenting a significant presence to Mountain View Boulevard to the north.
The building's architectural character is dominated by the significant use of concrete - an enduring material that will withstand the abuse of visiting teams frustrated by another loss to the Storm. To balance any perceived 'coolness' that concrete communicates, it was formed 'boardform' to provide a rich material texture and offset with a dramatic wood structure that ripples through the building.
BOMBPROOF MEETS DELIGHT
Richly textured boardform concrete calls to mind older farm buildings and ensures the community a fine facility for decades to come.
The coiffured wood structure roof warms what is often a cool material, and showcases a British Columbian resource asset.
