Ambleside Field House

WEST VANCOUVER
British Columbia

The renovations to the  Ambleside Field House significantly updated this aging but robust, modernist park building in West Vancouver’s popular Ambleside Park.

Significantly updated this aging but robust, modernist field house.

Highly visible from Marine Drive, the facility supports soccer and field hockey activities on the adjacent field with storage, change rooms and washrooms. Enhancements to the facility included major aesthetic and quality of service improvements, including updated washrooms, as well as a seismic upgrade. The façade of the building is now strongly characterized by field hockey-related graphics and a random distribution of circles pressed into the board form concrete. Some circles were created with cylinders of brightly coloured transparent plastic, allowing the flow-through of light and the creation of an expressive façade.

THE RANDOM IN ORDER

The façade of the building is now strongly characterized by field hockey-related graphics and a random distribution of circles pressed into the board form concrete. Some circles were created with cylinders of brightly coloured transparent plastic, allowing the flow-through of light and the creation of an expressive façade.

PACKED MODERNITY

As the existing building could not physically or structurally accommodate the modernization, the small additions were packed with all of the technical systems as well as offering new and updated signage.
